About Me: My story….My journey

I grew up in Boston, enjoying all the benefits of city living. When I was sixteen, my family relocated to a rural part of  the blue ridge mountains in Virginia - it totally sucked. I was 16 with no car, no friends, and no internet living in an unfinished house 20 minutes from the nearest town.

During summer break, my dad and I used to ride into town to pick up groceries and do laundry at the local laundromat. (What joy :/) If I was lucky, there would be a movie to go watch at the movie theater.

It was anything but what I was used to. I felt abandoned and lonely. The isolation from my friends made it hard to keep in touch, and as I went to boarding school during the school year, I didn’t have much access to making friends in our new area.

Two years later, I went off to college. I found a Freshmen Studies class that discussed the loss of community. It was the closest thing to therapy I had experienced because it was the first time since our move where I felt understood.

I fell in love with learning all about different cultures.   I learned how stepping out of our cultural norms can be both as painful and liberating as death.  However, once we live through such a transition, we can see clearly that the world can hold us. This knowledge gives me confidence to step out on my own and be more open to others.

But it is not without struggle. It takes support and patience to connect authentically with the deeper parts of us.  It took me a while before I found my landing spot.

                    ABOUT ME, the short version.

After I graduated from college I worked in the corporate world for a stint, became a Montessori Primary teacher, had three children and stayed home with all of them. My eldest daughter suffered from food intolerances and anxiety which catapulted me into nutrition. I struggled with finding  balance in the matrix of mothering and trying to “fix” our family’s struggles.  I began to study Kundalini yoga in addition to my weekly hatha yoga class.

I earned my 200hr level yoga training which led me to Shakti School and becoming an Ayurvedic Health Counselor.  I resonated deeply with the teachings of Ayurveda as it shifted my focus back to connecting with my best self and sharing my gifts with others.

I realized that my goal of being a good person and making a real difference is being realized by specifically  helping women and girls learn to recognize, prioritize and implement daily lifestyle and dietary habits that best support their emotional, mental and physical well being.
